What We Do

Examine and Diagnose
Imagine a diagnostic device so sophisticated that it could look inside an artery or a spinal structure and evaluate not just the current state of its health but also the rate at which that health is changing. And, even more remarkably, does so without any disruption to daily activities.

That analogy comes closest to illustrating the uniqueness of proprietary STRAAM technology, systems so advanced they are on a level all their own in this industry. And, unlike conventional passive methods using thousands of sensors, in most instances our system requires only two—whether the goal is a current snapshot assessment or a longer term gauging of a structure’s health.

What’s more, our technology evaluates continuously in real time and reports imminent risks instantaneously. Decision-makers can reach conclusions concerning the safest course of action based on current, accurate information.

Assess and Identify
The cumulative know-how gained through nearly four decades of theoretical and applied research gives us—and our clients—the advantages of a unique analytical perspective. Rather than a narrowly focused, reactive prescription, our Structural Integrity Assessment (SIA) system involves a holistic, “whole-body” approach to a structure’s health. Does a structure satisfy strength and serviceability requirements, and to what degree? An integration of hardware, software and algorithms forms the nucleus of SIA technology that answers those questions in ways that no other structural damage detection technique can match.

Our assessment services span this
range of analysis requirements:

Portable Integrity Assessment System (PIAS)
A non-intrusive and non-destructive form of testing, PIAS identifies the overall integrity of the structure and produces a detailed report for the client which is then used in consultation with our engineers.

Effective Fault Location (EFL)
One step beyond PIAS analysis, EFL identifies precisely where the faults are in the structure. This also is a non-intrusive and non-destructive test and likewise produces a detailed report facilitating consultation between the client and our engineers.

Automatic Structural Integrity
Assessment System (ASIAS)

ASIAS continuously evaluates structural activity and issues activity reports via the Internet to a control area designated by the client (i.e. building facility manager). ASIAS reports can be tailored to provide information most relevant to the client including alerting the client to indicators of unacceptable performance. Reports are provided quarterly or in time intervals best suited to clients’ needs. While consultations are not typically part of ASIAS, we can arrange them as required.

Quantify and Manage
Using our technology to create a picture of your structure’s health is really only one part of a bigger picture. A key facet of the data’s underlying value is using it to manage or mitigate risk in the most intelligent and cost-effective manner possible. Through a combination of engineering credentials and technological mastery, we at STRAAM are ideally suited to collaborate with owners or operators in developing optimum risk management strategies. In the process of devoting resources to the modification or repair of a structure, our input proves invaluable in decisions about how much, on what, and where to spend those resources.

STRAAM specialists will provide
you with:

A statement of overall condition regarding the safety of the structure

A diagnosis of the structure’s condition expressed in terms of strength reduction or serviceability
capacity. If the structure is compromised, our experts will provide you with a quantitative measure of where it is compromised and in what way

Recognizing the need to balance budgetary constraints against the structure’s value as an asset, STRAAM’s specialists will present you with remedial solutions within a range of cost and time options

Our specialists will provide remedial options based on sound, real-world engineering principles

We will assist further in helping you determine budgetary, scheduling and engineering priorities
