Gregory L. F. Chiu Gregory L. F. Chiu, PhD, PE
PRESIDENT & CEO

Gregory Chiu directs STRAAM’s risk assessment and management techniques associated with natural hazards. Prior to his most recent teaching position at City University of Hong Kong, Chiu was the Director of Engineering for the Insurance Institute for Property Loss Reduction (currently the Institute for Business and Home Safety) where he was involved with the writing of building codes, identifying mechanisms for incorporating engineering knowledge into insurance procedures, and developing techniques to manage losses resulting from natural hazards. Chiu received his PhD in Civil Engineering from Stanford University and is a registered professional engineer in the state of California.
   
Alan P. Jeary   Alan P. Jeary, CEng, DSc (Eng), PhD,

CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER


Alan Jeary brings over 30 years of experience in the area of structural monitoring to STRAAM. In addition to his role as STRAAM CTO, Jeary is the Foundation Professor of Construction and Building Science at the University of Western Sydney, Jeary has prior experience with other academic institutions, the Building Research Establishment and the Central Electricity Research Laboratories. He is a world recognized authority on instrumenting full-scale structures to study their dynamic characteristics and has published over 130 papers on the results of his studies. Jeary earned his PhD and DSc from University College, London and has lectured worldwide on the overall behavior of structures.
   
Charles H. Thornton   Charles H. Thornton, PhD, PE
CHAIRMAN


As chairman, Charles Thornton oversees the management and operations of STRAAM. In addition, he heads Charles H. Thornton &
Company, LLC, a management and consulting firm, and Thornton-Termohlen Group, Inc., a company committed to the industrialization of construction. Thornton is a consultant to the Thornton-Tomasetti Group (TTG), a global engineering firm with whom he has a 40-year history providing engineering and architectural services, failure analysis, hazard mitigation and disaster response services. Thornton has been internationally recognized for his introduction of both innovative engineering solutions and management strategies and has authored numerous technical papers and lectured both in the U.S. and abroad. He holds a PhD in Structural and Engineering Mechanics from New York University and is a registered professional engineer in 26 U.S. states.
